Clinical supervision
Having had many years as a children’s counsellor, I took the next step in my career to become a clinical supervisor. I now offer a regular space for counsellors or practitioners to check in, reflect and get support with their own personal work.
Supervision is not about being judged or told what to do. Clinical supervision is an ongoing relationship between the supervisor and Supervisee where, just as with direct therapeutic or supportive work trust and collaboration builds over time making supervision a safe place to work together. It’s a collaborative process where you can talk through any particular personal challenges, celebrate progress and explore what comes up for you in your personal work. This process helps you remain grounded but encourages you to keep growing and make sure you are practising safely and ethically.
Whether you are newly qualified or have many years of experience supervision gives you the chance to step back and reflect with someone who really gets it, it’s fantastic for your own self-care and is essential to all practising counsellors and practitioners.
I am happy to discuss your own individual needs however, the minimal supervision accepted by BACP is 90 minutes per month for practising therapists. I often work online as I have completed an online supervision course so feel comfortable working online, I am equally happy to work face to face in the local area of Cumbria, in which I offer a safe private practice to work from.

Testimonials
“I wholeheartedly recommend Melanie as an exceptional counselling supervisor. Her support has been invaluable, particularly in my work with children and young people, as well as with adults. Melanie possesses a truly personable and approachable demeanour, consistently creating a safe and easeful space during our sessions. She has a remarkable ability to ask insightful questions that gently guide me towards a deeper understanding of both my own process and the complex dynamics at play for my clients. Engaging with her is consistently a rewarding and profoundly educational experience which facilitates a fun, creative way to work with young people in such difficult circumstances.”
“I had to change my supervisor due to retirement and so I was really nervous about choosing a new supervisor after having been with my previous one for five years. Melanie was very patient and took it at my pace to see whether I felt she was suitable as my supervisor and whether we could work together. I need not have worried as she is excellent at building a professional but warm and trusting relationship. She is warm, friendly and extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the area of CYP therapeutic work. I trust that I can bring anything to her and she will have the knowledge and skills to help tackle the work sensitively and ethically. I feel held and supported in any ethical dilemmas that I discussed in my supervision knowing that I wouldn’t be judged but only encouraged and supported. Melanie is very skilled and creative in her approach in working with CYP issues and I have already integrated some of these ideas into my therapeutic work. She’s also very open to learning from my experience and theoretical approaches in my work. I would highly recommend her as a CYP Supervisor.”
“As an adult counsellor I was expanding my work to children’s counselling, I reached out to Melanie and I am so glad that I did! Melanie carries much knowledge and helps me feel supported in my work.”
