Children’s person-centred & systemic family counselling

Professional counselling & therapy for children, adolescents & family

What I do

I provide a strictly confidential counselling service in a safe, secure and comfortable environment, using person-centred techniques.

My approach towards counselling children involves encouraging them to express themselves, similar to adult ‘talking therapies’. This approach is often through art and play which helps the child feel more calm and at home, and encourages them to comfortably explore their thoughts and feelings. The relationship between counsellor and child is very different to those they share with other adults in their family and day-to-day lives. The counsellor is a neutral party and develops a different type of trusting and respectful relationship, and one which allows more space to open-up and share their thoughts and feelings.

Alongside working one-to-one with children, I offer systemic family therapy, this can help those in close relationships to better understand and support each other. Its enables family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on family, strengths, and work together to make useful changes in their relationship and their lives. Research shows family therapy is used for children, young people, adults and older adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties and interpersonal issues and circumstances, across the family cycle. I am happy to work online with parents/carers or face-to-face.

I am happy to offer a free initial telephone conversation to discuss how I could help you and your family.
